The Dripping Springs Lady Basketball Club is ‘playing the long game’ for athletes with skill development being the primary focus. The emphasis is on dribbling, shooting, pass/catch, defense, rebounding, run/jump/move, and competition drills placed in a high practice-to-game ratio format. Technique development in the early ages (for example, a missed shot with proper form is better than a made shot with bad form) is an investment which pays dividends in the later years. Positionless basketball is embraced enabling position specialization in high school to benefit from a strong fundamental skill set.
Team Seasons
Teams are fielded in the Spring and Fall typically lasting 8 to 10 weeks, having practice 2 days a week, and playing in 2-4 Austin area tournaments. Practice locations are in the Dripping Springs area and specific gyms vary from season-to-season based on gym availability. Team offerings are dependent upon registration numbers, and gym & coaching availability. Targeted ages are 4th to 7th grade.
Mini series
Pay-by-the-week skills development clinics for a group of athletes are offered in the summer or may also be requested throughout the year if parents assemble a group of athletes.
Personalized Skills Coaching
Training content may be developed by Coach Meyers, through correspondence with athlete’s team coaches from other organizations, or via athlete/parent request. Sessions are available to 4th-12th graders and last an hour at $25 a session. Days and times can be flexible to accommodate busy schedules, and workouts are on outdoor courts convenient to the athlete (e.g., athlete’s driveway, amenity court, public court, etc.). Coach Meyers has portable lights so after dark workouts are feasible. Contact via email or phone (page bottom) to inquire
Drills are for skills; games are for reads
The ultimate mission is to develop complete players ready for high school competition. Noting ‘drills are for skills, and games are for reads’, the complete player must have competency at both.
Skills: At the heart is shoot, dribble, pass, rebound, run/jump/move, defense, and footwork…doing it well…doing it right.
Reads: It's about situational game awareness, recognizing or running schemes/plays, and creating outcomes (not simply responding to situations).
Player development is a continuous journey entwining player athleticism/will/game IQ, coaching creativity, and team dynamic.
Why girls?
Motivation
Coach Meyers started the club to develop kids, coach athletes, and help players achieve (or reach beyond) their goals. The focus tends to be in leading player skill development, building basketball IQ, and teaching players how to compete physically & mentally. The sporting theater is an amazing space. It’s an intriguing journey in a never-ending quest for excellence involving the inner workings of coach, athlete, and team. Off the court there is a desire to be a known neighbor in the local community and a contributing member in the basketball community.
The Club seeks to promote, further develop, and maintain a strong girls basketball culture in Dripping Springs. All girls genuinely interested in developing basketball skills are welcome...those with years of basketball experience, multisport athletes trying out a new sport, and those wanting to see if basketball is a good fit are all welcome. The Club does not host a tryout.
